Carpe Diem Time Travel #2 The Tale of Genji

The Tale of the Gengi -by Murasaki Shikibu

where the cicada casts her shell
in the shadows of the tree,
there is one whom I love well
though her heart is cold to me

(the “answer”):

amidst dark shadows of the tree,
cicada’s wing with dew is wet,
so in mine eyes unknown to thee,
spring sweet tears of fond regret

all the loneliness
of your early departure

spills into the night
moonflower’s beauty fading
light penetrating shadows

hidden in the bark
a clinging cicada shell
filled with nothingness
my shrouded heart still hugging
fragrance of our last embrace

like whispered prayers
leaves float away
in the silence left behind
a hint of fresh hope
